Free entry to all.

Funding News – February 2018

Postcode Lottery

Local charities and community groups will have the opportunity to apply for between £500 and £20,000 raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery with various focuses:

People’s Postcode Trust: applications for projects that focus on the prevention of poverty, promotion of human rights and equal rights. www.postcodetrust.org.uk

Postcode Local Trust supports community gardens, play areas, wildlife and green energy projects. www.postcodelocaltrust.org.uk

Kelly Family Charitable Trust

The Trust gives grants of mostly £1,000 – £5,000 to charities whose activities involve the whole family in initiatives that encourage and nurture a supportive structure within the family unit, and whose aims include the development of strong and supportive family bonds by helping all elements of the family unit to grow together and support each other.

The three areas that the charity wishes to support are:

  • Interventions and support that help families to manage better and prevent the fracture of the family unit, eg relationship counselling, mediation
  • Families where sexual abuse, physical abuse, domestic violence, alcohol abuse and drugs abuse threaten the integrity of the family unit
  • Prisoners and in particular their families, during and after the period of imprisonment

Sheds Grant Fund

Royal Voluntary Service, with funding from the Asda Foundation, has established a Sheds Grant Fund to provide small scale funding to Sheds who are looking for help with either set up or early stage development costs.

  • Do you need between £250 and £1,000?
  • Is your Shed run as a membership – co-ordinated by unpaid volunteers for the benefit of your members?
  • Is your Shed a member of (or willing to join) your national Men’s Sheds Association?
  • Are you happy to participate in local promotional or partnership opportunities, as may arise, with your local Asda store?

What can we fund?
Royal Voluntary Service can help you in many ways, including…

  • Tools and equipment
  • Building renovation costs – eg roofing/flooring materials
  • Revenue costs – eg rent/insurance contributions
  • Promotional materials

Allchurches Trust

Allchurches Trust is one of the UK’s largest grant-making trusts. We are an independent charity, regulated by the Charity Commission.

We welcome applications from all parts of the UK and Ireland, particularly from areas of social and economic deprivation.

The Greggs Foundation Local Community Projects Fund Programme

The Greggs FLCP Fund Programme offers a helping hand to community organisations across the UK. They look for community organisations that are helping to improve the quality of life of people who need it most throughout.

They are interested in projects that improve resilience within your community. This can include sessional activities/respite support, equipment for sessional activities, trips and residential breaks. They are also interested in new approaches and innovative ideas as well as sustainable approaches to supporting your community. They do not fund running costs or continuation of existing and ongoing work.

The maximum grant that they can give is £2,000 & the deadline to apply is 9th March 2018 with decisions being announced by 27th April 2018. The Women’s Vote Centenary Grant Scheme

The Women’s Vote Centenary Grant Scheme is a £1.5 million government fund that will support local and community groups across England in celebrating the centenary of women gaining the right to vote.

Eligibility

  • Voluntary and community organisations
  • Registered charities and voluntary organisations
  • Social enterprises and other not for profit companies or ventures Community benefit societies and co-operative societies
  • Colleges and universities
  • Trade unions that meet the statutory definition of a trade union

Partnerships or consortia are able to apply for funding. One organisation within the partnership or consortia must be the lead and take on full responsibility for the project and the terms and conditions of the grant. The lead organisation must be an eligible applicant organisation. Special purpose vehicles are not able to apply.

Museums, galleries and cultural organisations are encouraged to apply. Local authorities may not apply for funding directly, but are encouraged to be part of partnership or consortia bids. For further details please click here.

Berkshire Community Foundation: COMIC RELIEF LOCAL COMMUNITIES

This 12 month programme is responding to the growing need of small locally led groups to cover their day to day costs. The aim is to provide funding of grants, between £1,000 and £5,000, for groups’ core costs – meaning expenditure that is not connected to delivering projects but focusing on investing in the organisation as a whole, such as basic running costs. The Grant shall be used to support groups that can evidence a sustained beneficial impact on people’s lives who are excluded or disadvantaged this may be through low income, rural or social isolation, age, disabilities, race, sexuality or gender. Priority is to be given to small, locally based groups or organisations in areas of disadvantage that have a clear understanding of the needs of their community and are undertaking actions as a means of addressing these need.

Applicants need to:

  • Be a registered charity, constituted community group or other charitable organisation, including social enterprise/CIC, working in Berkshire, which benefits those who are excluded or disadvantaged in some way.
  • Have been running activities for a minimum of 12 months.
  • Have annual income £100,000 or under (for the last full financial year).
  • Apply for a project that fits one of the Comic Relief priorities for Core Strength – Local Communities for 2017/18: Connected Communities, Productive Communities, Empowered Communities.

Berkshire Community Foundation: #IWILL PROGRAMME

The #iwill Programme aims to increase youth volunteering and social action by 50% by 2020 and is being delivered by community foundations across England. Local groups can apply for grants between £1,000 and £5,000 for youth social action projects which last up to a year (they can be one-off events). Social action involves activities such as campaigning, fundraising and volunteering, all of which enable participants to make a positive difference to their communities. Core costs are eligible if the other criteria are met, including how the project meets the principles of great youth social action. Groups must demonstrate that their programme can meet the following quality principles of great youth social action: reflective, challenging, youth-led, socially impactful, progressive, embedded.

Applicants need to:

  • Be a registered charity, constituted community group or other charitable organisation, including social enterprise/CIC, based and working in Berkshire.
  • Be seeking a grant (of £1,000-£5,000) for a youth social action project, that will promote volunteering, fundraising and/or campaigning amongst young people aged between 10 and 25.
  • Have a project that meets the principles of great youth social action – as identified in the Fund Criteria and Guidance for Applicants.

NEW TRAINING DATE: Essential GDPR – What you need to know

Data Protection can seem like a complex area and you may have heard about the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) coming into force on the 25th May 2018, which will affect all organisations, this includes parish/town councils, voluntary and community groups. Which is why CCB is facilitating this session in partnership with Databasix. This training has been organised to help organisations in the voluntary sector and town/parish councils.

GDPR strengthens a number of existing principles and introduces more rights for individuals in the use of their personal data.  This half day training session will introduce the GDPR to delegates, describe the differences between the Data Protection Act 1998 and provide practical steps that need to be taken in order to start implementing GDPR.

What will I learn?

  • Understand the basic principles of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
  • Know what the key differences are between GDPR and the Data Protection Act
  • Understand how it applies to the personal and sensitive data you collect, use and process.
  • Understand how Data Protection fits with Freedom of Information, Information Sharing and Information Security,
  • Be confident in the steps your organisation needs to take to get ready for GDPR
  • You will leave the session with some practical tips and tools for managing your GDPR implementation plan.

Trainer

The course will be delivered by Kelli Peters of Databasix. Kellie spent 14 years working in the NHS and Civil service managing teams processing personal data. During her time with the NHS she has been involved in delivering Information Governance and Data Protection training courses to members of staff, both clinical and non-clinical.  Since setting up Databasix UK in 2013, Kellie has used her experience to develop data protection workshops for SMEs and Charities across the Thames Valley, with the view of providing practical advice and guidance.

Tuesday 20th March at Padworth Village Hall, RG7 4HY. The session will commence at 2.00pm and will finish by 4.30pm.
