Berkshire’s Village Halls Project Marks Major Milestones in Year 3

The 21st Century Community Halls project, led by CCB and supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, has reported significant progress during the second half of our third year.

The project, which aims to modernise and future-proof community spaces across the county, continues to deliver tangible benefits for local residents across Berkshire.

Key Achievements Over the Past Six Month

  • 64 Initial Consultations Completed: The project is on track toward its goal of 80 consultations, helping village halls assess their facilities and plan improvements.
  • Enhanced Follow-Up Process: Follow-up events now incorporate The National Lottery Community Fund’s new Missions Framework, ensuring outcomes align with national priorities on sustainability, inclusion, and community resilience.
  • Learning Partner Engagement: The National Innovation Centre for Rural Excellence (NICRE) completed a mid-project survey and is working closely with us to develop case studies and gather deeper insights into community impact.
  • Training and Standards: Multiple training sessions focused on the ACRE Hallmark Quality Standard have been delivered, equipping trustees with best practices in governance, safety, and community engagement.
  • Broader Community Reach: The project has expanded its engagement to include church halls, Scout groups, and Women’s Institute facilities, strengthening its network of rural community spaces.

Looking Ahead
We plan to continue consultations and host major events in early 2026, including a flagship case study showcase in January. These efforts aim to inspire trustees and share practical strategies for hall development, sustainability, and fundraising.

The project underscores the vital role of village halls as hubs for rural life, ensuring they remain accessible, energy-efficient, and welcoming for generations to come.
