Celebrating Community at Brimpton Village Hall

A wet and windy journey across West Berkshire in October led Community Buildings Advisor Kate Meads to one of the area’s community treasures: Brimpton Village Hall.

The weather outside may have been gloomy, but the hall itself was bright, welcoming and full of activity. Kate visited the hall as part of the free one-to-one support and consultation service available through CCB’s 21st Century Halls Project, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.

Brimpton Village Hall may be small and rurally located, but it plays a vital role in local life. Recent improvements, including solar panels, battery storage and a fantastic new kitchen, are helping to make the building more sustainable and fit for the future.

The hall is home to a wide range of activities, including twice-weekly sessions for people with special educational needs, fitness classes, lace-making groups, fundraising events and other community activities. The local school and church also make regular use of the space.

What stood out most during the visit was the dedication of the trustees. Their passion for supporting the community is evident in everything they do, and they are continually looking for ways to improve the hall and expand what it can offer local residents.

Like many village halls, however, the committee faces the ongoing challenge of recruiting new trustees. For anyone considering volunteering in their community, becoming a trustee can be a rewarding opportunity to develop new skills, meet local people and help safeguard an important community asset.

Brimpton Village Hall is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through dedicated volunteers, forward-thinking improvements and a strong commitment to community. These are exactly the types of projects and conversations that the 21st Century Halls Project is proud to support.
